Horton Plains

30 km from Nuwara Eliya is the national reserve Horton Plains. This plateau is located at an altitude of 2100 meters above the sea level. From here you can see the whole Sri Lanka with its lakes, mountains, Adam’s Peak. In good weather even the ocean is so close as if it is in the palm of your hand.
Here live leopards, languor with a purple face, numerous mountain birds. Tourists hurry to the Horton Plains in a hope to meet the dawn before the mountains get covered with haze. The highlight here is a chasm 1050 meters deep, called the Edge of the Earth.
