Waterfalls, Nuwara Eliya

Waterfalls and mountains, countless tea plantations and real English architecture, all that is NuwaraEliya, or “City of Light”.
This resort is located at the foot of the highest mountain of Sri Lanka, Pidurutalagala at an altitude of 1884 m above sea level. It was built in the XVIII century by the English to enjoy a mild climate and picturesque landscapes far off the coastal heat. The peaked roofs of the houses, the English church, the clock tower are turning Sri Lankan town into “Small England” for 150 years already.
Modern Elia is rich of ritzy hotels, golf courses, racetracks and discos. In the center of the city is Victoria Park. To the south there is Lake Gregory.
Many buildings have been preserved since the colonial period. It is here that you can plunge into the atmosphere of that time by visiting these architectural sights. Many of the private homes still maintain their lawns and gardens in the Old English style.
Attractions of the city include a golf course, trout streams, Victoria Park, rowing and fishing on Lake Gregory.
