Almost 1600 km of bordering shoreline surround Sri Lanka – an ideal place for a beach holiday. It might be windsurfing, kayaking, yachting, rafting, water skiing, scuba diving or snorkeling (swimming with a mask at the water’s surface), or maybe just fishing, in a manner traditional for Sri Lanka, or by boat.
Surfing instructors, literally in a couple of hours, will teach you basic techniques. Numerous fish and giant turtles can be seen just by wearing a mask and swimming off shore only a few meters.
The wide sandy strip invariably attracts tourists with children.
Two monsoon winds, providing rain in two parts of the country in different periods, make the Sri Lanka beach holiday year-round. Northeast winds make the south-west coast sunny and the sea calm from November to March, and the south-west winds on the contrary-create the comfort of the East Coast from March to October.
