Peak of Adam

The peak of Adam is a mountain 2,243 m high, located in central Sri Lanka. The mountain is sacred to the Buddhists. The area along the mountain is a nature reserve, a habitat for many animal: from elephants to leopards, including their local species.
Local residents call this mountain of Sri Pada a “sacred trace”. At the very top is a trace of a giant foot, stamped on a stone. Muslims and Christians believe that Adam left it when he came down to earth evicted from paradise. Buddhists believe that this is the Buddha’s footprint, the Hindus – that Shiva’s. That is why it is always full of pilgrims, especially on the days of the full moon, as well as on Saturday, and other holidays. The Peak (mountain) of Adam is a sacred place for people of different religions.
At the top of the mountain is a temple. From it a beautiful view of the island is opening. Climbing to the top is not an easy task, but this does not stop numerous tourists.
